About Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court.
Basic Rules
- Players or teams hit the ball back and forth over a net
- Points are awarded when a player fails to return the ball within the prescribed dimensions of the court
- Matches are typically played as best of 3 or 5 sets
- Players must allow the ball to bounce once before returning it
- The first player or team to win 6 games with a 2 game lead wins a set
